Dawson City, Yukon Territories things to do when visiting the region including the areas of Rock Creek, Moose Creek and Eagle Plains.

  • Wildlife Sightings. Some of the best opportunities for wildlife sightings are located near Dawson City, Yukon along the Dempster Highway and in Tombstone Territorial Park. There are moose, wolves, caribou, black and grizzly bears. The park is also home to over 130 bird species including the beautiful gyrfalcon.
  • Hiking & Walking. The community of Dawson City enjoys a waterfront path along the Yukon River called the Dike Walkway. There are great views overlooking the community and the river from the easy going Crocus Bluff Trail. The Ridge Road Trail is for longer backpack adventures with overnight camping.
  • Heritage Sightseeing. Dawson City, Yukon is the hub of heritage attractions. There are attractions like the SS Keno, Robert Service Cabin and the John London Cabin where the hosts are dressed in period attire . There are mining heritage sites, away from town, down backcountry roads like Dredge 4 and the Discovery Claim.
  • Touring. There are boat, horse carriage, plane and driving tours. Boats tours explore the Yukon and Klondike Rivers. Carriage tours visit the historic streets and shops of Dawson City, Canada. The planes provide flight seeing tours over mountain ranges and to remote lakes. Driving tours explore along the Top of the World Highway, Klondike Highway, Dempster Highway and the Silver Trail Highway.
  • Wilderness Sightseeing. Dawson City, Yukon has two elevation viewpoints. The Dome Lookout provides an easy access drive-in viewpoint overlooking the community, the Yukon River and the Ogilvie Mountains. The Crocus Bluff Trail is a short jaunt to a rocky viewpoint overlooking the river and community also. Hop a ferry and travel the Top of the World Highway for some mountain ridge and forest views.
  • Cycling. During the summer the paved highways in and around the community see a fair share of touring bikes. Cyclist towing full camping gear travel the Top of the World Highway and the Klondike Highway.
  • Mountain Biking. There are many backcountry gravel roads and recreation trails in the region. Many of the mining roads off of Bonanza Creek Road lead to trails. The Ridge Road Heritage Trail is a popular route measuring 32 kilometres with plenty of single track and downhill sections great for mountain biking.
  • Entertainment. Dawson City, Yukon was the town for entertainment during the Klondike Gold Rush and is still an entertainment hub. Today there are actors dressed in attire from the Klondike Gold Rush working throughout the community. There are dancing girls, live shows, fiddlers, horse carraiges and gambling at Diamond Tooth Gerties.
  • Gold Panning. Dawson City is a mining town. Most miners arrived during the Klondike Gold Rush seeking gold in the rivers and creeks. Keeping with tradition, there are many opportunities at various venues in the community to try your luck at gold panning - just like the miners did in the 1900s.
  • Canoeing & Kayaking. Dawson City is situated at the junction of the Yukon, Bonanza and Klondike Rivers. The Yukon and Klondike Rivers are historic paddle routes for canoes and kayaks. There is a canoe put-in near the floatplane base in town. There are day paddles and multi day paddle destinations on both rivers. Tour resorts operate in the region.
  • Snowmobiling. When the snow falls many of the roads and trails become snowmobile routes. The Top of the World Highway and the Dempster Highway accommodate snowmobiles. And there are trails like the Overland Trail and the Goldfields locally. Tours operate in the region.
  • Dog Sledding. Tours operate in the region providing day sleds and overnight dog sledding adventures. Dawson City is part of the world famous dog sled race called the Yukon Quest which starts in Fairbanks Alaska and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon.
