Pine Lake

Pine Lake is located on the Alaska Highway near the community of Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, Canada. The small lake is best known as a campground destination and as a day use recreation park for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, picnicking and swimming.

From the shores of the lake, looking north, one can see Paint`s Mountain looming over the lake. Pine Lake and the surroounding mountains were once a site used by the First Nation people for collecting red ochre. Red ochre was a special dye collected from the nearby Pine Lake mountains used for painting.

In the park is a small day use area located near the boat launch where the main beach is located. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbled rock. It is a good size beach with good views of the lake and nearby mountains. At the end of the beach is a short hiking trail which further explores the shoreline of Pine Lake.

There is a long wooden pier (next to the boat launch) extending out onto Pine Lake. The pier is ideal for swimming and for securing a canoe. Further up the shoreline of the lake, set back in the trees, is a large group BBQ pit area with bench seating, picnic tables and a big fire pit. Not far away is a picnic shelter and a children's playground.

The campground on Pine Lake includes campsites suitable for RVs, campers and tenters. However the campground is only open during the summer months between May and September. There is a camping fee for overnight visitors.
