- Backpacking. Some amazing long haul, backpacking adventure routes are located in the Kluane National Park and Reserve. Each includes opportunities for wilderness camping and possible wildlife sightings. Some of the more recognized multi day adventures in the region include the Cottonwood, Auriol, Slims West and Slims East Trails. There are tour companies in the region.

- Mountain Biking. The network of gravel access roads, old mining roads and recreation trails located in the region provide for some good mountain biking opportunities. Being it a mountainous region there are some exceptional downhill runs. Some of the mountain biking trails to make note of include Mush Lake Road, Slims East Trail and Alsek Trail.

- Canoeing/Kayaking. The lakes in and around Haines Junction are exceptional. Many of the lakes are crystal clear, surrounded by mountains, fed by glaciers and suited for canoe and kayak paddle adventures. The turquoise -green waters of Kathleen Lake is one of the more, easily accessed, popular paddle destination. Pine Lake, Kluane Lake and Dezadeash Lake are also suited for paddle adventures. There are tour companies in the region.

- Fishing. Fishing is enjoyed year round in the region. During the summer people enjoy fly fishing, shore fishing and trolling for lake trout, arctic grayling, northern pike and kokanee salmon. During the winter any frozen lake is an ice fishing destination. Fishing is enjoyed on Kathleen Lake, Kluane Lake, Pine Lake and Dezadeash Lake. Hike in fishing is enjoyed on Mush, St. Elias and Bates Lakes. A fishing licence is required to fish in the Yukon Territory. There are fishing guides in the region.

- Horseback Riding. There are many gravel roads, wagon roads and recreation trails that lead to mountains, alpine meadows and valleys of wildflowers. Many permit horseback riding. Some of the horseback riding routes in the region include the Alsek Trail, Mush Lake Road and Slims East. There are tour companies in the region.

- River Rafting. The Kluane National Park and Reserve is home to two rafting rivers in the Yukon - the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers. Both rivers are major waterways of the Yukon and are protected. Both require registration prior to any private rafting trip. Otherwise, your best bet is going through tour companies who provide the know how, guides, lessons and equipment to raft these challenging rivers safely and wildly.

- Flight Seeing. Floatplane and helicopter flight seeing tours operate from Haines Junction. Some of the flight seeing destinations include the Chilkoot Pass Glacier, Yukon River, Atlin Icefields and, of course, Canada's highest mountain - Mt. Logan - and the icefields and glaciers in the Kluane National Park and Reserve.

- Boating. Motorized boating is permitted on Kathleen Lake and Mush Lake. Both are located in the Kluane National Park and Reserve.

- Dog Sledding. Dog Sledding is permitted in some areas of the Kluane National Park & Reserve for both day trips and overnight trips. Mushers must register at the Canada Parks Office in Haines Junction. Other areas to dog sled include frozen rivers like the Takhini River and snow filled valleys like Ibex Valley. Dog sledding season runs usually from November to April. There are dog sled tour companies operating in the region.

- Cross Country Skiing. There are both beginning and expert groomed and non groomed runs ideal for cross country skiing in the Haines Junction region. Most are located within the Kluane National Park. Some of the routes permitting xc skiing include the Cottonwood Trail, Mush Lake Road, the Dezadeash River Trail, Mt. Decoeli and the Auriol Trail.

- Mountain Climbing. The Kluane National Park & Reserve is home to the monster mountains belonging to the St. Elias Range. Some of the mountains near Haines Junction for climbing include Paint Mountain, Quill Peak, Mt. Martha Black and Ibex Valley. There are climbing clubs in the Yukon and climbing route information at the Canada Parks Office in Haines Junction.

- Snowmobiling. After the snow has fallen and the lakes and rivers freeze over there are plenty of routes and destinations permitting snowmobiling. Some of the more popular snowmobile destinations include the designated snowmobile areas of Alsek Valley, Alcan Pipeline Trail, Dezadeash Lake, Kathleen Lake, the Chilkat Pass and Mt. Decoeli. There are snowmobile tour companies operating in the region.
