Yukon Canada Snowmobiling Snowmobiling in the Yukon Territory is a way of transportation to and from communities for locals and it is a way of adventure exploring the vast backcountry wilderness mountains for visitors. During the winter months (October to April), after the snow has fallen and the temperatures have dropped, the recreation trails, gravel roads and some highways become popular snowmobile routes. Snowmobiling is one of the more popular adventures in the Yukon Territory during the winter months. There are resorts and lodges which are located on the edge of wilderness who provide snowmobile tours. Some snowmobile tour operators work from a base lodge and provide day trips. Some start at a base camp and then travel from accommodation to accommodation over a number of days. Snowmobile tour companies operate as a tour only or as an adventure resort. Snowmobile resorts, may or may not, include meals, lessons, entertainment, transportation and accommodations. It is best to know what it is included when booking a snowmobile tour in the Yukon. Each Yukon community listed on this adventure travel website provides the descriptions and photos for some of the local snowmobile trails and destinations. The contact information for participating snowmobile tour operators and resorts are listed under each community. Each community in the Yukon has snowmobile routes. Some developed, some not so developed. Surrounding the community of Whitehorse, Yukon there are over 300 kilometres of groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trails for that snowmobile adventure. It is one of the better network of trails in the region. While in Dawson City, Yukon the Dempster Highway and Top of the World Highway, both, accommodate snowmobile adventures during the winter. Both, Whitehorse and Dawson City commuities have nearby valleys, frozen rivers, gravel roads and alpine mountains designated for snowmobiling and tours. In the Southern Lakes Region of the Yukon, the lakes and rivers freeze over forming an ice highway for snowmobiles. And when you are not on the frozen rivers and lakes snowmobling there is always the Carcross Desert, Mt. Lorne and Montana Mountain near Carcross, Yukon. Haines Junction, Yukon is home to the Kluane National Park and Reserve. In the winter the mountains sparkle with heavy amounts of snow. Haines Junction enjoys some of the best areas in the Yukon for snowmobiling. Designated snowmobile areas include Alsek Valley, Alcan Pipeline Trail, Dezadeash Lake, Kathleen Lake, the Chilkat Pass and Mt. Decoeli. The Dena Cho Trail near the community of Faro, Yukon on the Silver Trail Highway is a 63 kilometre historic hiking trail, which.. after the snow has fallen, becomes an excellent long haul snowmobile route with great scenery. |
