Kookatsoon Lake Recreation Park : Yukon, CanadaThe Kookatsoon Lake Recreation Park is a little gem of a day use park located at the 152 Kilometre Marker (94.5 Mi) on the South Klondike Highway (Hwy #2) - located north of the community of Carcross and east of the community of Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory. The park is situated on the shores of Kookatsoon Lake. It is a small park with a beautiful turquoise-green lake. A lake which is shallow and great for swimming and launching a canoe. The small sandy beach in the park provides quick access to the lake. To the side of the beach is a sand box with a playground and a picnic area. In the picnic area there are picnic tables and fire pits. Many times firewood is provided. Nearby are the pit toilets and behind you is a large gravel parking lot. The playground is protected by trees from the wind coming off the lake. There is a slide, merry go round and riding plastic horses. Better yet, the whole playground is one big sand box. There is no camping in this park. It is strictly a day use picnic park. The gates close on a regular time schedule. How to Get to Kookatsoon Lake Recreation ParkTravel the Alaska Highway east of Whitehorse, Yukon to the Carcross / South Klondike Highway Exit (Hwy #2). Turn south down Highway #2 and continue driving for about 5 kilometres. On your left will be a park sign marking the entrance to the park. Driving from Carcross, Yukon continue north of the South Klondike Highway (Hwy#2) towards Whitehorse. On your right, before the intersection of the Alaska Highway and the South Klondike Highway, will be the entrance to the park. |
