Wye Lake Park

The Wye Lake Park is a recreation destination located in the heart of the community of Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory, Canada. The 26 hectare community park is a day use area visited regularly as an activity destination and as a connector route used to get from one point of the community to another.

There is a 2.5 kilometre walking trail that circles the lake. Much of the trail is in the open with a small section exploring through trees. The less forested part of the trail follows a gravel path and on the developed side is a boardwalk trail.

The lake is marsh-like in many ways. There are families of cattails and metres of soggy shores. Birds fly in and fly out of the lake on a regular basis. There is an old beaver house left untouched for viewing. Birdwatching includes ducks, loons, horned owls, woodpeckers, sandpipers, Mountain Bluebirds, Bald Eagles and Canada Geese.

The park is well maintained and well used. There are many sections of the park consisting of large strips of grass lawns and plenty of open space. The activities enjoyed in the Wye Lake Park include hiking, dog walking, picnicking, jogging and, of course, birdwatching. In the winter the path and lake is used as a cross country ski trail.

The amenities located in the Wye Lake Park include some picnic tables, a picnic shelter/gazebo, viewing benches, a sani dump, interpretive signs, a lookout platform, children's playground and washrooms. In the summer there is a concession stand, although the hours of operation is more hit and miss.
