Peace Park : Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

Peace Park is a leisure park destination located in the community of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. The Rotary Peace Park follows the banks of the Yukon River and is situated across the street from the SS Klondike Historic Site and the Robert Campbell Bridge near the beginning of the Robert Service Highway.

The park is a major gathering spot in the community during the summer months. It is a well developed park which is within easy walking distance from downtown Whitehorse via a waterfront paved pathway. The paved pathway leading through the park is very popular for dog walking, biking, jogging, sightseeing and rollerblading.

The Peace Park is a resting spot for many activities and sightseers as there are small gatherings of people in bunches throughout the park. The park enjoys large grass lawns, a waterfront path, washrooms, viewing benches, picnic tables, gazebo shelter, beach volleyball, a playground and a splash park.

In the Peace Park is a monument dedicated to Angela Sidney (Ch'oonete Ma Stoow). She lived from 1902 to 1991 in the Yukon Territory. She was a First Nation women who dedicated her life to preserving her people's dances, cultures and traditions. She received the Order of Canada in 1984. She was quoted as saying, " I have no money to leave my grandchildren. My stories are my wealth."

From the Peace Park one can access other adventures in the region. The 5 kilometre Millennium Walkway begins behind the SS Klondike. The Millennium Walkway connects to the Yukon River Loop Trail which connects to Miles Canyon . The east side of the Millennium Walkway connects to the Chadburn Lake Trail which leads you to a group of lakes.

How to Get to Peace Park

Travel to the community of Whitehorse on the Alaska Highway in the Yukon Territory, Canada. From the Alaska Highway take the Robert Service Way Exit into the community of Whitehorse. As you enter the community there is a set of stop lights at the intersection where the SS Klondike sits and the Robert Campbell Bridge crosses the Yukon River. The Peace Park is on the west side of the bridge.
