- Hiking & Walking Trails. Whitehorse enjoys a good network of walking and hiking trails ranging from easy going paved routes to full day wilderness hiking trails. Many of the trails connect therefore extending hiking adventures. Most popular paved route in the community is the Millennium Trail. Wilderness Routes, too many to list, but give the Chadden Lake and Yukon River Loop serious consideration.

- Mountain Biking. Many gravel roads and back country trails combine to make for some great single track and downhill rides in Whitehorse. There are routes for casual riding and routes for extreme. Some of the wilderness biking destinations include Grey Mountain and Chadburn Lake areas.

- Canoeing. The rivers and lakes in the Whitehorse region provide endless opportunities to paddle a canoe. There are day trips and there are overnight paddles with accommodations like wilderness camping and cottages. There are many tour operators in Whitehorse. Some of the routes include the Big Salmon River, McNeil River, Bennett Lake to Marsh Lake and the Yukon River.

- Fishing. Fly fishing, shore fishing and trolling are enjoyed in the region. There are easy access fishing spots and there are many fly in, boat in and canoe in fishing locations. There are fishing cabins run by local operators located on many of the remote lakes in the area. Fish include Lake & Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike, Whitefish and Salmon. Must purchase a fishing licence to fish in the Yukon.

- Horseback Riding. There are many thousands of hectares of wilderness country in the Yukon. Horseback riding tours provide an opportunity to view some of the most remote wilderness scenery in the region. Guest Ranches providing horseback rides provide day rides and multi day rides. Some of the riding destinations include Lake Laberge, Grizzly Mountain and the Miner Mountain Range area.

- River Rafting. A wild assortment of rivers to raft. There are tour operators providing rafting tours for all class levels of rivers. Rafting tours include a qualified guide, meals and sometimes accommodations for overnight tours. Some of the rafting rivers in the region include the Yukon, Nisultin, Teslin, Takhini, Tutshi, Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers.

- Sightseeing. Lots of attractions to see in Whitehorse - both entertainment and wilderness scenery. Some of the entertainment venues include the McBride Museum, Vaudeville Theatre, SS Klondike, Trolley Train in town, Beringia Museum, Takhini Hot Springs and the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. Wilderness sightseeing tours are enjoyed on foot, by canoe, by boat cruise and by floatplane. Depends on your budget and appetite.

- Flightseeing. Floatplanes are a big part of travel when seeking remote adventure destinations and sightseeing opportunities in the Yukon. Sightseeing by floatplane is referred to as flightseeing. Some of the flightseeing destinations include the Chilkoot Pass Glacier, Yukon River, Atlin Icefields, Kluane National Park, Southern Lakes and the Tombstone Mountains near Dawson City.

- Birdwatching. Birding is enjoyed on many of the lakes and rivers in the Whitehorse region. There are songbirds, shore birds, predator birds and migratory birds. For visitors, an easy access birding destination would be the kettle lakes and hiking trails in the Hidden Lakes area.

- Boating. There are many lakes and very large rivers in the Whitehorse and Southern Lakes region for boating. many of them connect. In town there are boat cruises for sightseeing on Schwatka Lake. Boat launches are located on many of the major recreation waterways like the Yukon River, Marsh Lake and Lake Laberge.

- Dog Sledding. The winter months dump snow on the mountains, frozen lakes and alpine valleys in Whitehorse. It is a winter wonderland for dog sledding. Local operators provide day sledding and multi day adventures. Follow in the same tracks as the mushers of the famous Yukon Quest Dog Sledding Race. Popular dog sledding routes include the Takhini Express, Dawson Trail and the Yukon Quest Trail. Dog Sledding season runs usually from November to April.

- Cross Country Skiing. In Whitehorse there are many recreation trails in the winter months used for cross country skiing. The area around the Hidden Lakes and the Chadburn Cross Country Ski Trails are very popular. The Chadburn area has both beginning and expert groomed and non groomed runs.

- Snowmobiling.The Whitehorse backcountry gravel roads lead to alpine valleys and mountain parks ideal for snowmobiling. There are a over 300 kilometres of groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trails in the region. Snowmobile season runs usually from November to April. Peak season is Marsh and April.
